The past, the present and what came to be the future.

My father passed away in 2005.  A few months later, my mother, brother, and I, brought his ashes back to Barcelona.  I had been away from home for too long.  Walking the streets, shooting my past made me realize that what might be dormant for a time awakens in a most powerful way.

FC Barcelona - Barça, is my football team, the club I was born into.  It's an integral part of Catalan identity, of its culture and pride.  I brought my camera to a public training session and through a hole in the wire fence, shot a roll of Tri-X.  Back in the darkroom when I returned to Montreal, it was exciting seeing the images emerge in the developer.  Despite the  conditions,  the shots turned out rather well.  I felt deeply inspired, but was left to dream, not realizing what lay ahead.  In the Spring of 2007, I spent several weeks in Barcelona and was given permission by the club to shoot for a Black & White study.

These six portraits were in a group exhibit in Montreal, December, 2007.  They were hand printed from Tri-X negatives on 20x24 inch warm toned Ilford FB archival paper.
